TOPSTREAM™ WLAN


In order to realize the mobile phone which was equipped with the IP phone function by wireless LAN, such as a hot spot, in addition to access to a mobile phone network, it is necessary to realize the Wi-Fi function which needs the operation throughput of 3,000 or more MIPS by SoC of power consumption of 100 mW or less.


TOPSTREAM WLAN uses a scalable multi-core platform, and is IEEE-802.11 MAC for mobile phone-oriented wireless LAN, and it is IP for the multi-cores SoC designed to IEEE-802.11b baseband processing. In order to reduce the power consumption by the data transfer and signal-processing operation on an internal bus, sign magnitude expression is used for I/Q signal processing by the matched filter or a 128-bitSIMD processor. As a result, the processor of four different kinds was combined and the wireless LAN function by 802.11b is realized by the clock frequency of 50 MHz, and 100 mW of power consumption.
